Is Thaura a ChatGPT wrapper?

No. Thaura is fully independent.

It's built on an open-source model called Qwen3.6, which we self-host on our own European GPU infrastructure. Since we haven't trained the model ourselves, we've implemented guardrails to ensure truthful answers on the kind of questions other AI platforms tend to avoid.

Thaura is built on Qwen3.6, a 27 billion parameter open-source dense model with native vision support, which we self-host on renewable-powered GPUs in Helsinki, Finland.

This makes us significantly more efficient than most large AI models.

Where are your servers located?

We run on data-secure, EU-based infrastructure: Hetzner for the backend (EU Germany), our own self-hosted AI model on Verda GPU servers (EU Finland), and Scaleway (EU, France) for transcription and embeddings.

We chose these EU providers for privacy, data security, and independence.

Self-hosting the main model means no third-party AI provider sits between you and Thaura. Your conversations are processed by software we run ourselves.

We don't sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it to train AI models. All data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest (AES-256-GCM). Beyond what's needed to deliver the service, we don't profile, analyze, or share your information.

How is Thaura more sustainable?

Our model is much smaller than most large models: 27 billion parameters, small enough that a single GPU generates your entire reply.

Frontier models are estimated to be orders of magnitude larger and to use many times more energy per reply. Exact figures aren't public, but the direction is clear.

That efficiency comes from our compact dense model combined with vLLM optimization, so a Thaura reply costs a small fraction of the energy of a typical large model.

Will Thaura be open source?

We're providing this solution for regular people who don't want to or aren't technical enough to host their own.

At the same time we're planning to open source Thaura one day, and we'd love for people to host it on their own as part of our decentralization mission.

However, we're being thoughtful about timing because of serious security concerns. We've seen firsthand what happens when code is released before it's been properly hardened.

On top of that, we're up against adversaries with significant security resources and skills, while we operate with far fewer. Releasing code that hasn't had time to be properly hardened could create vulnerabilities that could be exploited against our mission. We need to ensure our code is properly secured before opening it up to prevent both technical exploits and value co-optation.

Our platform features a free version with usage limits (5 messages every 5 hours) and a premium pro version ($15/month) that removes these rate limits and includes additional features.

Our API is fully compatible with the OpenAI SDK and can be integrated across popular development environments. We charge $0.50 input/$2 output per million tokens.

"Thaura" means "revolution" in Arabic, a word we know well from Syria's revolution. Today, the tech ecosystem needs its own revolution, so we chose this name to represent our fight for ethical AI.
